Happy Anniversary, Wright Brothers!

By Dan

Around this time of year, everyone is pretty engrossed in the holiday happenings; last minute shopping, decorating the tree, attending parties. Let’s take a break from that for a moment and appreciate a truly historic day!

Orville and Wilbur Wright were brothers, bicycle shop operators, inventors and aviation pioneers. On December 17, 1903, after three years of experimentation with kites and gliders, they achieved the first documented successful and controlled flights of an airplane. The flights, which were near Kitty Hawk, NC, (piloted first by Orville and then by Wilbur) only lasted about a minute but they still count and go down in the history books as the representation of man’s first powered airplane flight. This marked the beginning of a whole new realm of transportation.

The Wright Brothers probably never imagined their endeavors would lead to first class seating, small bags of peanuts and the subconscious appreciation from busy travelers everywhere.
