Backyard Science Weekend — In Pictures
The Maryland Science Center held it’s annual Backyard Science Days this past weekend and the whole museum was overflowing with backyard fun! Backyard Science Weekend is a celebration of the science you can find right in your own backyard.
Rob Mies, the bat conservationist, was here with his winged friends dispelling myths and telling visitors why bats are so important.
Harry, Lela and the Mt. Mushers sled dogs also paid us a visit and talked about sled dog responsibilities and dog safety. They even brought Sorrell, Su and Pixie — 3 retired sled dogs — out to meet our guests!
Chef Derrick provided a creepy crawly cooking demo and made cricket stir fry and mealworm cookies. High protein, low fat!
The Science Center education staff brought out some animals that can be found right here in Maryland’s back yard. Kids enjoyed meeting salamanders, ferrets, snakes and all sorts of other creatures.
Throughout the day, Bob Evans was giving away delicious samples, and guests were invited to make and race a veggie car, make craters, sun prints, a beetle habitat and launch stomp rockets!
We’d like to thank everyone who came to see us this weekend. You really made Backyard Science a success!
