Feeling spacy and it’s only going to get worse!

By Dan

We love experiments here at the Science Center. We like to push the limits and see what is and isn’t possible. Such was the mentality of NASA scientists 40 years ago when they sent human beings rocketing into space with the intention of landing on the moon. The rocket traveled at a staggering 35,000 feet per second (yes, second) and consumed a whole lot of gas — approximately 7 inches per gallon. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin would end up landing their gas-guzzling lunar module Eagle on July 20.

It’s a time of nostalgia for those who are able to remember that historic launch. We have partnered with the Baltimore Sun to find out just what people were up to 40 years ago today when the shuttle took off and when it the astronauts took their first steps on the moon.

Can you remember where you were? Share your stories with The Sun or stop by the Science Center and share them in the Our Place in Space Exhibit!
