Carnival Science was a Success!
On Saturday, we decided to try something new! We were thinking about how much we love games and how much we love science, so what better way to combine the two than have a Carnival Science Day?? Carnival activities are a favorite pastime for most of our guests, but it’s likely that few have thought about the science behind each game. Guests learned how to juggle, played Ring Around Saturn, Bean Bag Toss, Pick-a-Duckie, Bushel Basket Toss, Recyclables Knockdown and parachute games. At the very same time they learned about Biomechanics, Saturn’s Rings, Why beans and corn are fun AND delicious, probability, Maryland Blue Crabs, recycling and wind resistance. Each child who completed the Science Carnival Question Scavenger Hunt earned a prize.
To add to the carnival fun, we thought some stilt walkers were in order. Lizzie and Annie joined us and answered questions about gravity and balance. Our own staff wowed our guests with optical illusions in the Light and Shadow Show. Mark Lohr was on hand to perform his hilarious Suitcase Comedy Act, and Gem and Jam of Peanutbutter came all the way from Philly to paint faces beautifully!
From now on, whenever you play a carnival game, keep in mind that there are some really interesting science aspects behind it!
