Celebrating the red-hot summer, and going green.

By Dan

We’ve been busy bees here at the Science Center, celebrating the Solstice as well as the launch of the Alt-Car program! This past Saturday, we rang in the summer start with our annual Solstice Gala– Puesta del sol. Spicy Latin flair permeated the summer evening air as our guests enjoyed the sizzling sounds of Jose Conde Y Ola Fresca, sampled some traditional Latin fare and sipped a Sun Spot (the signature cocktail) along the harbor’s edge.

The museum remained open throughout the event and many of our guests took the opportunity to indulge their inner child by romping through Newton’s Alley, an interactive discovery area that reveals the marvelous phenomena of matter, energy, force and motion. Some strolled though our new traveling exhibit, Chinasaurs, while some explored our Solar System in Space Link.

All proceeds from Solstice 2009 benefit the education and outreach programs of the Maryland Science Center.

In this case particularly, pictures speak louder than words so I’ll leave you with some photographic narration of the celebration. Check the next entry to read more about the exciting alt-cars for rent here at the Science Center!
